Red Stars move to semis

HERRIMAN, Utah — The Red Stars advanced to the semifinals of the National Women’s Soccer League Challenge Cup, making all four of their penalty kicks to defeat the OL Reign 4-3 after the teams had played to a scoreless draw.

Julie Ertz, Vanessa DiBernardo, Kealia Watt and Rachel Hill converted their penalty kicks for the Red Stars, who will face Sky Blue at 9 p.m. Wednesday for a berth in the title match. Sky Blue beat the Washington Spirit 4-3 in penalty kicks after a 0-0 tie.

Nicole Momika, Darian Jenkins and Bethany Balcer made penalty shots for OL Reign, but Shirley Cruz missed high in the first round and Lauren Barnes hit the woodwork in the final round.
