DePaul finally earns first Big East victory

Charlie Moore scored 10 of his 21 points — including eight free throws — in the last 1:34, and DePaul squandered a 13-point lead midway through the second half before recovering to earn its first Big East victory by defeating Marquette 68-61 in Milwaukee.

Javon Freeman-Liberty added 19 points for the Blue Demons (3-5, 1-5 Big East), who held the Golden Eagles (8-7, 4-5) to 35.5% shooting to end a 14-game road losing streak in conference play.

D.J. Carton scored a career-high 23 points to lead Marquette.

† Izaiah Brockingto­n led four players in double figures with 21 points, and Penn State (5-6, 2-5 Big Ten) handed Northweste­rn (6-8, 3-7) its seventh loss in a row with an 81-78 victory in State College, Pennsylvan­ia.

Miller Kopp scored 19 points, Boo Buie 18 and Pete Nance 17 for the Wildcats, who haven’t won since Dec. 26 against Ohio State.

NHL Blue Jackets, Jets swing deal

GOLF McIlroy leads in Abu Dhabi

Rory McIlroy made an eagle and five birdies on his way to a 5-underpar 67 and a one-stroke lead over Tyrrell Hatton after the third round of the Abu Dhabi Championsh­ip in the United Arab Emirates. McIlroy completed 54 holes at 13-under 203.

Max Homa shot a 7-under 65 and Si Woo Kim and Tony Finau 5-under 67s to share the lead going into the final round of the American Express in La Quinta, California. All three finished three rounds at 15-under 201.

COVID-19 U. of Michigan sports shut down

The Michigan Daily reported the state health department is suspending University of Michigan athletics for two weeks after five student-athletes tested positive for a COVID-19 variant. Fifteen others are presumed positive.
