DENZEL WASHINGTON HUNTS A KILLER
In Washington’s new crime thriller, The Little Things (Jan. 29 on HBO Max), also starring Rami Malek, he’s Deputy Sheriff Joe “Deke” Deacon, on the hunt for a serial killer terrorizing Los Angeles. Here are some facts about the 66-year-old Academy Award winner (for Training Day and Glory), who first became famous as Dr. Philip Chandler on TV’s St. Elsewhere.
▶ Washington joined the Boys & Girls Club of America at age 6. He has been their national spokesperson since 1993.
▶ The son of a Pentecostal minister, he has said that he reads his Bible every day.
▶ Washington’s son John David followed him into acting and was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in BlacKkKlansman.
▶ He overcame his professed fear of heights to jump from the tops of one train car to another in Unstoppable.
▶ Washington is the most Oscarnominated Black actor, with nine nominations (eight for acting; one for producing), winning twice.
