Viggo Mortensen Takes a ‘Fall’

Mortensen drew on “incidents I recalled from my childhood” to write, direct and star in Falling (Feb. 5 in theaters and video on demand), a drama about the toll dementia takes on a family when it realigns the worlds of a homophobic father (Lance Henriksen) and his gay son (Mortensen). “What I ended up with was a father-son story about a fictional family that shares some traits with my own,” says Mortensen, 62, who has been nominated for Oscars for his roles in Green Book, Captain Fantastic and Eastern Promises.
