WHO’S TRENDING?
Five Bears candidates worth buzzing about:
1. Titans director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort
Interviewed for the general manager job Saturday. Former D-III quarterback (MinnesotaMorris) who spent 15 years in the Patriots’ personnel department from 2003 to ’20. He also has interviewed for the Giants’ GM job.
2. Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll
Expected to interview Sunday for the coaching job — and hotter than ever after the Bills’ dominant offensive performance against the Patriots on Saturday. QB Josh Allen blossomed under his tutelage.
3. Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett
Interviewed for the coaching job Saturday. He got more out of Blake Bortles than anyone as Jaguars OC in 2017, but Matt LaFleur calls the plays — and Aaron Rodgers runs them — in Green Bay.
4. Former Colts and Lions coach Jim Caldwell
Interviewed for the coaching job Saturday. Out of football since serving as a Dolphins consultant in 2019. Hired by Bill Polian as the Colts’ head coach in 2009. Had winning records with the Colts and Lions.
5. Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen
Expected to interview Sunday for the GM job. Hired by Bill Parcells as a scout with the Dolphins in 2008, Schoen has an impressive record of talent evaluation. But he has never had to make the final call. Others: Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, former Texans GM Rick Smith, former Eagles coach Doug Pederson, former Dolphins coach Brian Flores, Steelers vice president Omar Khan, Chargers director of player personnel JoJo Wooden, Patriots scouting consultant Eliot Wolf.
