Zeritis, Victoria Mae

-

Victoria Mae Zeritis (born 2/26/1938), elementary school teacher and longtime resident of Homewood, Illinois, was laid to rest on January 18, 2022 at the age of 83. Vicki, as she was known to her friends and family, is survived by her niece, Gina Taeuber (Rich) and great-niece Alya. Vicki is predeceased by her Mother Opal, Father James, and brother George Zeritis. Vicki spent her entire career as an elementary school teacher, in Park Forest, School District 163, teaching 4th grade for over 35 years. Not only did Vicki love teaching those young minds but she also enjoyed fighting for fellow teachers’ rights as an avid member of the American Federation of Teachers. Although she called Illinois home, Vicki loved to travel visiting friends and family all over the world and country. She also had great joy for the arts as she was active in attending the Art Institute and various other Chicago museums and cultural events. For a number of years, Vicki was a season ticket holder at the Goodman, Shakespeare theater, and Chicago Symphony. Vicki was also active in a book club that met monthly. In the year leading up to her passing, Vicki unfortunatly endured countless health complications and spent most of that time in various hospitals and rehabilitation facilities. Per her direction, her body was donated to the sciences to be used for research. We are certain, however, that her soul and spirit have moved comfortably onto the next life seeking a haircut, manicure and a glass of wine. Due to the continued spread of Covid-19, there will be no formal services at this time but a celebration of life will be planned for Vicki’s close family and friends in the future
