String of armed robberies in Washington Heights

Police are warning of a string of armed robberies over the last few weeks in Washington Heights on the South Side.

In each of the incidents, tow truck drivers were called to purchase a junk car and then are robbed at gunpoint, Chicago police said.

The incidents occurred at:

◆ 11 a.m., Jan. 17, in the 9200 block of South Green Street.

◆ 11 a.m., Jan. 20, in the 9900 block of South Lowe Avenue.

◆ Noon, Jan. 25, in the 9900 block of South Lowe Avenue.

◆ 6 p.m., Jan. 28, in the 600 block of West 99th Street.

◆ 6 p.m. Thursday, in the 9900 block of South Halsted Street.

Police encourage residents to stay aware of their surroundin­gs, report suspicious activities and to refrain from chasing offenders.
