Wendt, Winfield “Win”

-

It is with a heavy heart that we are sad to announce the untimely passing of Winfield(WIN) Wendt, who died from COVID-19 on February 17, 2022 while surrounded by his wife Mickey of nearly 55 years, His three children James (Sandy) Tammy and Natalie (Russ) Engel, also with him was his grandson Mick Millaney, niece Shelly Carlascio & nephew Bobby Anderson. We All held his hand and loved on him as his lord and savior Jesus Christ carried him to heaven. “absent from the body, present with the lord” (2 corinthians 5:8). Win was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Mildred Wendt, brother Richard, and sister Elly. Win is loved and will be missed by a multitude of nieces and nephews who he spent many a day with as we gathered constantly for family times. Wins latest addition to our family was our fifth Doberman Jack, he’s one year old and he is adored by win.

Win grew up in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago, after schooling at Vanderpoel elementary and CVS high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served four years, two of which were in the Vietnam combat. Was honorably discharged as corporal. Life took a turn as he joined the Evergreen Park Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant after 35 exemplary years of service. He often said, more than any accommodations he received, what he cherished most was the respect and love from all his men. Enjoying a life of public service he once again found fulfillment with the Will County Sheriff‘s Department in a part-time position where again he was honored with love and respect, this totaled 50 years of police work. Win has left behind a legacy of pride, integrity, and kindness echoed by all who knew him. It would take a book (coming at a future date) to list the myriad of talents God blessed him with, heres a few; he engineered and built the first computer for the EPPD, he developed the first digital mug shot system for the EPPD. Built by hand and ultralight airplane. In his 70s he built in 1931 Ford hot rod from scratch, he made his own tools, an inventor, entrepreneur, etc. Is more than a friend to neighbors and store clerks especially those from Home Depot. But love of family, friends and his church Mokena Baptist were Paramont in his heart. We will be sorely missed by his eight grand blessings, Russell and Michaelyn Engel, Mike Millany, Miriam, Gerda, James, Johan and Little Heidi Wendt. The grandpa who could fix all the broken toys, except for balloons! Visitation Tuesday 3 to 8 PM. Funeral service Wednesday 10:00 AM at Lawn Funeral Home 17909 S. 94th Ave. Tinley Park, IL 60487. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Funeral info 708-532-3100
