Fire add Mexican star as young DP
The Fire acquired Mexican winger Jairo Torres, 21, as a young designated player in a transfer from Atlas FC of Liga MX. As part of the transfer agreement, Torres will join the Fire on May 1, and his contract will run through 2025, pending a physical and receipt of his P-1 Visa and international transfer certificate.
“Jairo checks all the boxes that we were looking for in a young designated player,” sporting director Georg Heitz said. “Jairo has been one of the most productive young players in [the Mexican league] and was an integral part of Atlas’ championship-winning team in 2021. This move would not have been possible without all the hard work by [technical director Sebastian Pelzer] over the last several months.”
Torres climbed the Academy ranks before making his pro debut with Atlas at age 16 in 2016. The Guadalajara native has played in 108 matches (80 starts) for the club across all competitions.
