Elizabeth Mary Hurley Casey, 91, formerly of the Beverly neighborho­od on the south side of Chicago, IL, died at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Woodridge Supportive Living, Galesburg. Elizabeth was born January 2, 1931 in Chicago, the daughter of Herman G. and Hedwig (Neu) Brenzing. She received her master’s degree in Early Childhood Psychology from Chicago State University. She went on to teach in Chicago Public Schools for over 20 years. Her assignment­s included the Armour, Kohn and Vanderpool schools on Chicago’s south side. Elizabeth married William James Hurley II on August 21, 1954. Their marriage brought three children. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1975. She later married Leonard Casey on December 31, 1986. He preceded her in death on February 19, 2014.

Elizabeth is survived by one son, William J. (Sheryl) Hurley III of Abingdon, IL; one daughter, Frances A. Hurley of Chicago, IL; five grandchild­ren, William J. (Audrey) Hurley IV, Christophe­r R. (Madeleine) Hurley, Nate Dorgan, Nicholas Dorgan, and Emily Dorgan; one great grandson, William J. Hurley V; one brother, George (Connie) Brenzing of Chicago, IL.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and both husbands, Elizabeth was preceded in death by one son, Robert S. Hurley on October 10, 1976.

Elizabeth spent many years traveling with Leonard and her dearest friend and sister in law Maxine Hurley who predecease­d Elizabeth on August 8, 1997. They took many cruises to the Caribbean, trips to Las Vegas, Biloxi and overseas destinatio­ns such as Egypt and Israel. When not traveling, Elizabeth spent winters in Panama City Beach, FL and summers at Keeler Lake, MI, often being joined by her brother George and sister in law Connie, and other friends and family. Elizabeth moved to the Galesburg/Abingdon area in 2014 to be closer to her family and grandchild­ren. Cremation rites have been accorded. Services and internment will be private. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributi­ons may be made in Elizabeth’s memory to OSF Home Health and Hospice, 3405 N.
