Down to nine men late, Fire fall to Red Bulls

Patryk Klimala scored his second goal of the game on a penalty kick in the first minute of stoppage time to give the Red Bulls a 2-1 victory Saturday against the Fire at rainsoaked Soldier Field. Klimala had pulled the Red Bulls even in the 75th minute.

Xherdan Shaqiri scored on a penalty kick in the 16th minute for the Fire (2-3-4), who finished the game with only nine players after Jhon Duran and Rafael Czichos got their second yellow cards in the 80th and 83rd minutes, respective­ly.

◆ Ella Stevens scored in the first minute and Bianca St. Georges in the 25th to give the Red Stars a 2-1 victory against Racing Louisville in their regular-season opener at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview.

Heat star Butler’s knee feeling better

Heat star Jimmy Butler said he is confident he’ll be ready for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Monday against the 76ers as he deals with soreness in his right knee.

Butler sat out Game 5 of the Heat’s seriesclin­ching victory Tuesday against the Hawks, but he looked solid while taking jumpers and moving around the court after practice.

◆ The NBA fined the Suns fined $25,000 for violating injury-reporting rules by failing to disclose guard Devin Booker’s participat­ion status in an accurate and timely manner before Game 6 of the team’s first-round playoff series Thursday against the Pelicans.

Red Wings part ways with coach

General manager Steve Yzerman said the Red Wings wouldn’t renew the contract of coach Jeff Blashill, finally moving on from the man they chose to guide then through a long rebuilding process. Blashill was 204-26172 in seven seasons with the Red Wings, who have missed the playoffs the last six.

◆ Stefan Noesen scored his 47th and 48th goals, and the Wolves (50-16-5-5) completed their regular season with a 3-2 victory against the IceHogs in Rockford. Their .724 points percentage is a franchise record.

Hall of Famer Stringer retiring

Basketball Hall of Fame women’s coach C. Vivian Stringer, 74, said she is retiring after 50 years, 1,055 victories and 28 NCAA Tournament appearance­s at three schools.

Rahm leads in Mexico

Jon Rahm shot a 3-under-par 68 to take a two-stroke lead into the final round of the Mexico Open in Puerto Vallarta. He completed 54 holes at 15-under 198.
