Kluszewski, Eleanor R.

-

Eleanor Rita Kluszewski (nee Guckel), beloved wife of the late Ted Kluszewski, one of the greatest Cincinnati Reds ever, died on August 2, 2022, at the great age of 97. Born in 1925 in Argo, IL to Gertrude and Paul Guckel, Eleanor graduated from Argo Community High School in 1942, and married Ted Kluszewski in 1946. Throughout his career, Eleanor filmed Ted at bat and in the field, to assist him with his major league career. Eleanor was an exceptional athlete herself, excelling in softball, tennis, bowling and golf. She was also a volunteer with the Rosie Reds organization and an avid fan of the Reds until her dying day.

Eleanor loved all animals, especially her beloved boxer, Rookie. She was always up for a game of Bridge and had a special interest in the early pioneer days of the US. Eleanor would read anything that had to do with Route 66. In addition to her many talents and interests, she was also an excellent storyteller. She could share, in detail, treasured memories of family history.

In addition to her husband Ted, she was preceded in death by her brother Gerhardt Guckel, her sister Ursula Pyrz (Tony) and her niece Bonnie Guckel. She is survived by her nephews and niece, Tony Pyrz (Marianne), Ken Pyrz (Sharyn), Tom Pyrz (Mary Ellen), Rita Cooke (William), Michael Pyrz (Sandra), and Gary Guckel. She was much loved by 3 generations of family members and their spouses.
