Gorski, Phyllis Ann

-

Phyllis Ann Gorski (Dappen) of Summit, Illinois passed away September 1, 2022. Though small in stature, Phyllis had the heart of a giant. Always up for a conversation, offering advice, or a life lesson, Phyllis always had time for people. She was born in Evanston, IL on January 9, 1944, and was raised on the north side of Chicago near Addison & Damen, where she grew to be an avid fan of the Cubs. Phyllis’ high school years were at St. Gregory, and she attended St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in her youth. Phyllis began her career as a nurse at St. Anthony’s in Chicago and it was during this time that she met the love of her life, Jerry. They were married for a very full 54 years before his passing in August of 2021. Together, they raised a beautiful family of three children and seven grandchildren. Phyllis later became a teacher’s aid in School District 104 in Summit where she enjoyed working with children for many years. Many children benefitted from the time she spent volunteering at field trips as a chaperone. Phyllis was an ASBB Baseball Coach, a contributing member for many years in Districts 104 and 217 as a Band Parent and at Argo concessions where she once allegedly started the popcorn machine on fire. To say that she was always involved would be an understatement. “Mrs. G” or “PG” was a legend of sorts. Phyllis & Jerry attended literally hundreds of baseball, basketball, hockey, volleyball, football and other activities for their children and grandchildren. They rarely missed a concert, play or recital. Phyllis was an incredible baker and passed on her skills at yearly “Kolacky” baking parties with her grandkids. When it came to her family, Phyllis was always there anytime, and if she had to wright a wrong with a little spirit, she had no problem doing so. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gerald, her parents Edward Dappen and Cleophas (Fisher) and her brother Edward. Phyllis is survived by her three children, Jackie, Andrew (Paula), and Brian (Andrea). A proud, funny, and most loving grandma, her pride and joy are her seven grandchildren Emily, John, Andrew, Elizabeth, Joseph, Brian, and Olivia. Phyllis is survived by his sister-in-law Judy Gorski (Fred Meyer), their daughters Sarah (Aaron) and Rachel, her nephew David (Veronica) Dappen and her niece Phyllis (Steven) Suntrup and their sons Steven and Thomas. Memorial Visitation on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at St. Joseph Church from 10 AM until time of Mass 11:00 AM. We will go in procession from church to Resurrection Cemetery. Please send your thoughts and condolences to Phyllis’s family on her personal tribute website at www.foranfuneralhome.com
