Gordon arrested for battery

Pushed two security guards early Saturday at McDonald’s

-

Former Bulls guard Ben Gordon was arrested early Saturday after hitting a security guard and shoving another at a business in River North, police said.

He was being escorted out of the McDonald’s in the 600 block of North Clark Street about 3:20 a.m. when he struck a security guard in the face and threw him to the ground, according to Chicago police, who responded after a report of a disturbance. Gordon also allegedly shoved another guard to the ground.

Gordon, 39, is charged with misdemeanor counts of battery causing bodily harm and battery making physical contact.

The security guards, 29 and 21, declined medical attention, police said.

Police said Gordon was arrested at the scene. He reportedly was released from custody later Saturday.

Gordon was charged last month with assault, resisting arrest, contempt and child endangerment in New York for allegedly punching his young son at LaGuardia Airport.

According to the Queens district attorney’s office, witnesses, including an American Airlines employee, saw Gordon yell at his son and punch him several times in the face after the boy dropped a book on the ground.

Gordon later confirmed to police that it was his son. Gordon also allegedly assaulted officers as they attempted to handcuff him and put him in a patrol car.

Joshua Kirshner, an attorney representing Gordon, said the son is 10 or 11 years old.

A message was left by the AP seeking comment from Kirshner on Saturday.

Gordon played collegiately at the University of Connecticut, where he won a national title in 2004. The Huskies beat Duke in the Final Four and Georgia Tech for the title.

He was drafted by the Bulls in 2004 with the third overall pick (behind Dwight Howard and Emeka Okafor) and played 11 seasons in the NBA with the Bulls, Pistons, Bobcats and Magic. His last season was 2014-15.

His best season was 2006-07 when he averaged 21.4 points and 3.6 assists for the Bulls.

Gordon, who played for the Bulls from 2004 to 2009, has written about his struggles with mental-health issues in recent years.
