Isaac Guerendo ran for an 89-yard touchdown and combined with Braelon Allen for 233 yards rushing as Wisconsin defeated Maryland 23-10 on Saturday in Madison, Wisconsin. The Badgers improved to 3-1 under interim coach Jim Leonhard, who was promoted from defensive coordinator after the firing of Paul Chryst last month.

“Of course, I think there’s nobody more deserving,” said linebacker Nick Herbig, who had two of Wisconsin’s five sacks. “It blows my mind that he’s not the [permanent] head coach yet.”

With each team throwing for just 70 yards amid windy and rainy conditions, Wisconsin’s superior ground attack made the difference.

Allen rushed for 119 yards on 23 carries and gave the Badgers the lead for good with a nineyard touchdown that opened the scoring late in the first period. Guerendo ran 12 times for a career-high 114 yards, including the 89-yard score that made it 14-0 in the second quarter.

Iowa 24, Purdue 3

Freshman Kaleb Johnson ran for a careerhigh 200 yards on 22 carries, including a touchdown, and Spencer Petras passed for two touchdowns to power the visiting Hawkeyes.

It was Iowa’s first 200-yard rusher since Akum Wadley had 204 in 2015. Iowa has won two in a row while Purdue lost its second in a row.

Purdue quarterback Aidan O’Connell struggled to find his rhythm on a windy day, completing just 20 of 43 passes for 168 yards and two interceptions.

Leading 17-3 at halftime, it took Iowa just 17 seconds in the second half to push the lead to 24-3 on Johnson’s 75-yard touchdown run.

Minnesota 20, Nebraska 13

Mohamed Ibrahim rushed for 128 yards and two second-half touchdowns, and backup quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, a redshirt freshman from Antioch, brought the visiting Gophers back from a 10-point halftime deficit.

Starting quarterback Tanner Morgan was hurt on the last play of the first half.

Minnesota beat the Cornhuskers for a fourth straight year and became bowl-eligible for the fourth time in coach P.J. Fleck’s six seasons. Nebraska lost its third straight game.

Michigan 52, Rutgers 17

J.J. McCarthy threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and visiting No. 5 Michigan rallied from its first halftime deficit to match its best start since 2016.

Running back Blake Corum had two short touchdown runs and linebacker Michael Barrett intercepted two passes in a 28-point third quarter, returning the second one 31 yards for a touchdown.

Penn State 45, Indiana 14

Freshmen running backs Kaytron Allen (86 yards, season-high three touchdowns) and Nicholas Singleton (73 yards, one touchdown) propelled the visiting No. 15 Nittany Lions.

Indiana quarterback Connor Bazelak, the transfer from Missouri who started each of Indiana’s first seven games, watched this one in street clothes. His replacement, Jack Tuttle, left late in the first half and went straight to the locker room with an apparent shoulder injury. Tuttle did not return.

The Hoosiers have lost six in a row.
