Teen charged with murder in Back of the Yards shooting

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder in an August shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborho­od on the South Side.

The teen is accused of shooting Jose Morales, 38, in the abdomen on Aug. 17 as Morales was on a sidewalk about two blocks from his home in the 4800 block of South Wolcott Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Morales was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died, Chicago police and the medical examiner’s office said.

The boy, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was arrested Friday afternoon about a half-mile from the shooting and charged with first-degree murder, police said.

2 teens shot walking in Brighton Park

Two teens were shot Saturday morning while walking in Brighton Park on the Southwest Side.

The teens, both 17, were walking down the street about 10:50 a.m. in the 3800 block of South Archer Avenue when an unknown vehicle approached and someone inside opened fire, Chicago police said.

One teen was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to his lower back, police said. He was reportedly in serious condition.

The other teen was shot in the right foot and shoulder, officials said. He was taken to the same hospital in good condition.

No one was in custody.

Woman struck by car in crosswalk in River North

A woman suffered “incapacita­ting injuries” Friday night when she was struck by a vehicle in River North, police said.

The 38-year-old was crossing a street about 7:50 p.m. in the 600 block of North Rush Street when a person hit her with a car in the crosswalk, then drove away, Chicago police said.

She was transporte­d to Northweste­rn Memorial Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition, police said.

No arrests were made.

Authoritie­s identify boy, 13, killed in Roseland double shooting

Authoritie­s have identified one of the teenagers killed in a shooting Thursday morning in Roseland.

The two teenage boys were found just before 7 a.m. in the 11400 block of South Calumet Avenue, Chicago police said.

One boy suffered a gunshot wound to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The other boy was struck in the neck and chest and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified one of the boys as 13-yearold Michael Hence. The other boy has not yet been named.

There was no one in custody.

Boy, 16, shot in the leg in Austin

A 16-year-old boy was in serious condition after being shot Friday morning in Austin, police said.

The teen was outside just before noon in the 1500 block of North Lockwood Avenue when someone approached and fired shots, according to Chicago police.

The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg. He was listed in “serious but stable” condition, police said.

No one was in custody.
