Elizabeth C. “Betty” “Aunt Bea” Winfield, 79 years old of Antioch, IL passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Hillcrest Nursing Center, Round Lake Beach, IL. She was born December 28, 1942 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (nèe Boghosian) Sparks. Betty worked for the Chicago Police Department for 48 years within many department­s; but especially enjoyed her time within the detective unit, Area 5. She loved sports and followed her late son Richard Winfield’s career in Major League Baseball with the Boston Red Sox. Betty was also a fan of the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Blackhawks. Her fashion sense also preceded her as she was always well coordinate­d in her clothes and jewelry and her bright red lipstick on her lips.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Hillcrest Nursing Center. They provided Betty with an amazing quality of life. She loved playing bingo, turning her coupons in for treasures, meeting new friends, and the special events where she could dress up with her friends. The administra­tive staff, nursing staff, CNA’s, and everyone who worked there were special to her. Betty is survived by her brother, Thomas (Alice) Sparks; nieces, Donna McHale and Susan McHale; nephews, Timothy McHale, Jonathan (Ann Roper) Paranjothy; her great-nephews, Ryan (Jill) McHale, James (Megan) McHale, Dylan McHale; greatniece­s, Elizabeth McHale (Joe Szabo) and Megan McHale; great-great- nephew, James McHale and great-great- niece, Sloane McHale; and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Richard Winfield; her sister, Helen (James) McHale; her uncle, Paul Boghosian; her nephew, James McHale and niece, Helen McHale. Services will be private and inurnment will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL.
