DePaul’s road woes persist

Noah Locke scored a careerhigh 29 points, including seven three-pointers, and former Fenwick star Bryce Hopkins added 20 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 22 Providence fend off DePaul 75-64 on Saturday in Providence, Rhode Island.

The result enabled the Friars (15-5, 7-2 Big East) to end a modest two-game skid and improve to 11-0 at home. They are 2-2 without point guard Jared Bynum, who missed his fourth consecutiv­e game with a torso injury.

The Blue Demons (9-11, 3-6) entered the game fresh off a home victory against No. 8 Xavier, but they dropped their sixth road game in a row and fell to 0-4 in the conference away from Wintrust Arena.

Umoja Gibson had 16 points and five assists and Da’Sean Nelson 13 points to lead DePaul, which missed nine of its first 10 shots to fall behind 14-2.

Loyola 67, St. Bonaventur­e 55

Tom Welch led a big bench effort with 16 points, and the Ramblers (7-12, 1-6) notched their first victory in the Atlantic 10 by defeating the Bonnies (10-10, 4-3) at Gentile Arena. Loyola had lost its first six league games in its first season in its new conference.

Jeameril Wilson added 11 points and Marquise Kennedy and Jacob Hutson 10 each for the Ramblers, who got a combined 47 points from their bench players and only 20 from their starters.

Loyola shot 51% from the field and held St. Bonaventur­e to 31%.

Northern Iowa 76, UIC 72

Michael Duax scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and the Panthers (11-9, 7-3 Missouri Valley) used a 13-0 burst in the second half to erase a 10-point deficit and rally past the Flames (9-12, 1-9) at Credit Union 1 Arena. UIC has lost seven games in a row.

Trevante Anderson had 27 points and seven assists, Jace Carter 20 points and six rebounds and Toby Okani 12 points and eight rebounds for the Flames, who led 38-31 at halftime but were outscored 45-34 after the break.

Boston Coll. 84, Notre Dame 72

Quinten Post scored 12 of his career-high 29 points in the last six minutes and matched his career high with 14 rebounds to carry the Eagles (9-11, 3-6 ACC) past the Irish (9-11, 1-8) in South Bend, Indiana.

The game was Notre Dame’s first since the news Thursday that Mike Brey, the winningest coach in school history, would step down after the season.

Nate Laszewski scored a careerhigh 29 points, including seven three-pointers, to lead the Irish.

Ohio State 93, Iowa 77

Brice Sensabaugh scored 27 points and shot 10-for-12 from the field, including 4-for-5 from threepoint range, and the Buckeyes (11-8, 3-5 Big Ten) ended a five-game skid with a victory against the Hawkeyes (12-7, 4-4) in Columbus, Ohio.

Penn State 76, Nebraska 65

Andrew Funk scored 23 points, and the Nittany Lions (13-6, 4-4 Big Ten) made 16 of their last 21 shots en route to 68% shooting in the second half in a victory against the Cornhusker­s (10-10, 3-6) in State College, Pennsylvan­ia.
