2 wounded in shootout after man finds someone trying to break into his vehicle in West Lawn

Two people were wounded in a shootout when a man found someone trying to break into his vehicle Saturday afternoon in West Lawn on the Southwest Side.

About 12:40 p.m., a man, 46, was walking toward his parked vehicle in the 7600 block of South Cicero Avenue when he noticed someone trying to break in, Chicago police said.

A shootout ensued between the man, who has a concealed carry and FOID license, and the suspect, police said. The suspect then entered a nearby vehicle and fled, causing a crash in the 7900 block of South Pulaski Road.

The man was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with gunshot wounds to the right hand and left thigh, officials said. He was listed in fair condition.

One suspect was taken to an area hospital with a graze wound to his head, police said. He was listed in good condition.

Three suspects were placed into custody and charges were pending.

15-year-old shot in West Pullman

A 15-year-old boy was shot early Saturday in the West Pullman neighborho­od.

The teen was sitting in the passenger seat of a car about 1:40 a.m. in the 100 block of West 27th Street when someone in a grey sedan fire shots at him, according to Chicago police.

He was shot in the left hand and was later taken to Roseland Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

No one was in custody.

Teen fatally shot in Oak Forest

A teenage boy was fatally shot Saturday in suburban Oak Forest.

About 1:20 p.m., officers responding to a report of a person shot found Tyonie Ashford, 17, behind a building in the 15500 block of South Cicero Avenue, Oak Forest police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Officers rendered aid to the boy, who was then taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Oak Forest police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force were investigat­ing.

Woman struck by two vehicles in fatal hit-and-run in Austin

A woman was struck by two vehicles in a fatal hit-and-run Friday night in Austin on the West Side.

About 5:45 p.m., a white SUV was westbound in the 5000 block of West Washington Boulevard when it struck a black sedan eastbound on the same street, Chicago police said. Both vehicles then struck the woman, 25, who was crossing the street, police said.

She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, officials said.

Both vehicles fled the scene.

2 fatally shot inside South Deering home

Two people were shot to death Friday afternoon inside a South Deering home.

A Chicago police SWAT team responded to the residence after officers arrived to investigat­e a report of gunshots just after 2 p.m. in the 9500 block of South Bennett Avenue, Chicago police said.

The SWAT team eventually entered the home and found a woman, 47, with a gunshot wound to the head and a 44-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Further informatio­n was not known. Area detectives were investigat­ing the circumstan­ces of the shooting.
