CPD officer opens fire after being hit by fleeing car in Grant Park

A Chicago police officer fired their weapon after being struck by a vehicle Friday night in Grant Park.

About 8:10 p.m., officers on patrol in the 1100 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive saw a vehicle that was believed to have been connected to the assault of an officer that occurred in early March. Trying to evade the police, the driver of the car hit a curb, reversed the car and struck an officer before driving off again, police said.

The police officer then opened fire, police said. No one was struck.

The wanted vehicle came to a stop in the 7200 block of South Vincennes Avenue, police said. All of the passengers in the car tried to flee on foot and were later apprehende­d, police said.

The officer suffered a broken leg and was taken to a local hospital, police said.

Burglars drill through wall of vacant building to reach vault of bank next door

Burglars drilled through the wall of a vacant building in Lincoln Park to reach the vault of a bank next door, according to the FBI.

The agency did not say how much money the burglars stole on March 12 from the Bank of America at 2163 N. Clybourn Ave. The FBI said it was looking for two to four males, one them wearing distinctiv­e blue shoes. They fled in a small silver SUV and a black sedan.

Police release photos of car wanted in South Chicago hit-and-run

Chicago police have released photos of a car wanted in a hit-and-run crash on Thursday night that critically injured a woman in South Chicago on the South Side.

The woman was crossing the street at 79th Street and East End Avenue when a car struck her and continued west on 79th Street, police said in an alert.

The car was described as a light-colored, 2011-2016 Chevy Malibu with Illinois plates. It has damage to the right side front end, hood and windshield, and its right side mirror is missing. The car has a long dark mark on the driver side door. Anyone with informatio­n should call (312) 745-4521.

Man killed in Austin shooting

A man was killed in a shooting Friday night in Austin on the West Side.

About 10:55 p.m., responding officers found the 33-year-old man with a gunshot to his chest in a yard in the 1000 block of North Central Avenue, Chicago police said.

Witnesses said that the suspect opened fire from an alley and fled on foot, officials said.
