Red Stars fall in home opener

-

Defender Tatumn Milazzo took down Diana Ordonez for a penalty, and Ordonez converted the kick in the 55th minute to put the Houston Dash ahead and spoil the Red Stars’ home opener in a 2-1 decision Saturday at SeatGeek Stadium.

Mallory Swanson’s corner kick led to a goal for the Red Stars (0-2-0) in the 18th minute. The kick was deflected by Dash defender Natalie Jacobs and landed in the net. The own goal tied it after Maria Sanchez had given the Dash (1-0-1) the lead in the third minute.

“Our quality when we had the ball just wasn’t typical of us,” Red Stars coach Chris Petrucelli said. “The goals came from us giving the ball away. We’ve got to be cleaner with the ball.”
