THURSDAY THOUGHTS TIME TO PUT A LID ON IT
Reminder to Cubs fans: Andre Dawson in a Montreal Expos cap on his Hall of Fame plaque doesn’t diminish his accomplishments as a Cub. For Cubs fans seeking some form of validation, well, they should be familiar with the concept of waiting till . . .
† Cubs fans should save any true outrage over the Dawson cap plaque flap for the day when Ron Santo goes into the Hall in a White Sox hat.
† Good for Bulls second-year guard Derrick Rose being named to the rookie/sophomore game for NBA All-Star Weekend. Better — and more appropriate — would be being named to a spot in the real All-Star Game. Well, as real as that contest is.
† Condolences to Connie Kowal, executive director of the Chicago Baseball Museum, on the death of his father, judge Edward Kowal.
† Bad pun alert (the next ‘‘good pun’’ alert will be the first): If the Indianapolis Colts had lost the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Super Bowl XLIV between New Orleans and New York could have been billed as that old Elton John tune ‘‘Beignets and the Jets.’’
† Speaking of the Super Bowl, Kim Kardashian is co-hosting — with Holly Madison and Roselyn Sanchez — the seventh annual Leather & Laces Celebration on Feb. 5 at Miami’s Paris Theatre. Information is available at www.leatherandlaces.com. This seems like reasonable justification to run a photo of Saints running back Reggie Bush’s girlfriend, Kardashian (with Madison and Sanchez pictures online).
Kim Kardashian will be at the Super Bowl. So will Reggie Bush (on the phone in the photo). Presumably she’ll be partying the night before the game while he rests up to play for the Saints.
