Rose, Gibson selected for Challenge
OKLAHOMA CITY — Bulls guard Derrick Rose and rookie forward Taj Gibson were named Wednesday to play against each other in the Rookie Challenge on Feb. 12 during AllStar Weekend in Dallas.
Assistant coaches selected the Rookie Challenge rosters, with each team submitting one ballot. The game pits rookies against second-year players.
Rose, last season’s Rookie of the Year, will play for the sophomore team. He’ll find out at 7 tonight if he also will end the Bulls’ All-Star drought. Rose finished fifth in All-Star voting for Eastern Conference guards and would be the Bulls’ first All-Star since Michael Jordan in 1998 if he’s picked as a reserve.
Gibson, the 26th pick out of USC, is averaging 8.5 points and 6.3 rebounds.
