Rose, Gib­son se­lected for Chal­lenge

OK­LA­HOMA CITY — Bulls guard Der­rick Rose and rookie for­ward Taj Gib­son were named Wed­nes­day to play against each other in the Rookie Chal­lenge on Feb. 12 dur­ing All­Star Week­end in Dal­las.

As­sis­tant coaches se­lected the Rookie Chal­lenge ros­ters, with each team sub­mit­ting one bal­lot. The game pits rook­ies against sec­ond-year play­ers.

Rose, last sea­son’s Rookie of the Year, will play for the sopho­more team. He’ll find out at 7 tonight if he also will end the Bulls’ All-Star drought. Rose fin­ished fifth in All-Star vot­ing for East­ern Con­fer­ence guards and would be the Bulls’ first All-Star since Michael Jor­dan in 1998 if he’s picked as a re­serve.

Gib­son, the 26th pick out of USC, is av­er­ag­ing 8.5 points and 6.3 re­bounds.
