‘Cosby’ star helms Hyde Park play
Tony and Emmy winner Phylicia Rashad will be in the director’s chair for an upcoming production of “Immediate Family” by Paul Oakley Stovall, a Chicago playwright, actor and White House advance associate for the Obama administration, to be staged at the Goodman Theatre’s Owen Theatre. The contemporary family drama and comedy of manners, produced by three New Yorkers in association with About Face Theatre, will run June 2-July 8. Set in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, the play deals with family secrets and revelations. Team Starkid, the musical theater troupe with a devoted online following, will kick off a national tour with two Chicago shows next month. Vince Vaughn will host a showcase for three stand-up comedians as part of the TBS Just for Laughs Chicago festival. The actor’s June 17 show at the Chicago Theatre is one of several being announced Tuesday for the annual humor extravaganza. Also headed here: filmmaker Kevin Smith (June 14, Chicago Theatre), stand-up Patton Oswalt (June 14, the Vic) and “The Daily Show’s” John Oliver (June 15, the Vic). Green Day will welcome fellow hard rockers Guns N’ Roses into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A Rock Hall spokesman said Monday it’s not yet known if the original Guns N’ Roses lineup will reunite and perform at the Saturday ceremony at Cleveland’s Public Hall.
