Ken, a few words of caution about this new Barbie: She’s not the coy, glitterygown type you’re used to, and she’s been known to dispatch guys who really get on her nerves with an arrow through the skull. So don’t stand her up. For the non-plastic readers, here’s the news: Toy maker Mattel is taking orders for the “Katniss Doll,” the teenage heroine of the wildly popular “Hunger Games” books and the recently released movie of the same name. The doll’s August in-store release is timed to the DVD release of “The Hunger Games,” according to a Forbes.com story posted Monday.

The Katniss doll comes with “military-style” pants, a hooded jacket, a bow, arrows and a quiver.

In the “Hunger Games,” Katniss Everdeen is forced to a take part in a fight-tothe-death, televised tournament in a future, dystopian North America. Katniss is so skilled with a bow and arrow that when she shoots a rabbit for food, the arrow usually pierces its eye. Here’s how Katniss finishes off a dying competitor in “The Hunger Games”: “Then the raw hunk of meat that used to be my enemy makes a sound, and I know where his mouth is. And I think the word he’s trying to say is please. Pity, not vengeance, sends my arrow flying into his skull.”

Katniss Doll costs $29.95, according to the Mattel website, which says the doll is on back order and is expected to be available Aug. 1.
