Rangers’ Darvish shuts down Yanks
Yu Darvish scattered seven hits and struck out 10 in 8⅓ innings to outduel countryman Hiroki Kuroda and lead the Texas Rangers to a 2-0 victory Tuesday against the visiting New York Yankees. It was only the seventh matchup between Japanese pitchers in major-league history.
Darvish (3-0) departed after allowing a one-out single to Nick Swisher in the ninth. Joe Nathan got Raul Ibanez to hit into a double play on his first pitch to notch his fifth save.
Mariners topple Tigers
Alex Liddi had a careerhigh three hits, including a solo home run, and Michael Saunders drove in three runs as the Seattle Mariners ended a four-game losing streak by defeating the host Detroit Tigers 7-4.
Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila homered for the Tigers, who couldn’t overcome a rough outing by losing pitcher Max Scherzer (1-2). He yielded five runs and 10 hits in five innings.

Jack Hannahan capped a three-run fifth inning with a two-run double, and the Cleveland Indians extended the visiting Kansas City Royals’ losing streak to 12 games with a 4-3 victory. The skid is tied for the thirdlongest in Royals history.
David Price (3-1) pitched a five-hitter for his second career shutout, and Desmond Jennings, Luke Scott, B.J. Upton and Carlos Pena hit solo homers in the host Tampa Bay Rays’ 5-0 victory against the Los Angeles Angels.
Tommy Hunter (2-1) allowed a run and three hits in six innings, and Matt Wieters homered on a ball that deflected off the glove of left fielder Eric Thames as the Baltimore Orioles slipped past the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 2-1.
Rickie Weeks capped a five-run sixth inning with a three-run homer, and the host Milwaukee Brewers outslugged the Houston Astros 9-6. The Brewers have won the last 11 games between the teams.

The Atlanta Braves optioned right-hander Jair Jurrjens (0-2, 9.37 ERA) to Class AAA Gwinnett after he lasted only three-plus innings in a loss Monday to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The New York Mets put right-hander Mike Pelfrey (inflammation in right elbow) and left fielder Jason Bay (broken rib) on the 15-day disabled list.
