The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency is bringing doping charges against seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, threatening to strip his victories in those cycling races.

Armstrong could face a lifetime ban from the sport if he is found to have used performance-enhancing drugs. The move by USADA immediately bans him from competing in triathlons, which he turned to after he retired from cycling last year.

The charges from USADA come just months after federal prosecutors closed a two-year criminal investigation of Armstrong without indicting him.

‘‘I have never doped, and, unlike many of my accusers, I have competed as an endurance athlete for 25 years, passed more than 500 drug tests and never failed one,’’ Armstrong said in a statement.

Leshoure banned 2 games

The NFL suspended Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure for two games without pay and ordered him to forfeit two more game checks for violating its substance-abuse policy.

Leshoure, who starred at Illinois, pleaded guilty to marijuana possession in May after police discovered him with pot in his mouth during a traffic stop in Berrien County in southwestern Michigan. That happened March 12, less than a month after police in a different Berrien County community said they caught Leshoure with marijuana.

Illinois lands 6-10 recruit

Maverick Morgan, a 6-10 rising senior from Springboro, Ohio, posted his commitment to Illinois on his Twitter account. Morgan, whom Scout.com rates as a three-star prospect, chose the Fighting Illini over Dayton, Xavier, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Vanderbilt.

The British have budgeted $42 million for the Opening Ceremonies at this summer’s London Olympics, according to Vanity Fair. The Beijing version in 2008 came in between $100 to $400 million. So if those numbers don’t impress you, consider these:

Number of stadiums (Wembley) that will be converted into a “rolling British countryside.”

Number of grazing horses in that scene.

Number of sheep. Number of cows. Number of goats.

Number of chickens. Number of appearances by James Bond.

Number of Beatles scheduled to appear. Number of mosh pits.

Number of people allowed in the mosh pit.

Cost of a ticket.
