Luck shows mettle in Colts’ loss

-

Indianapolis Colts rookie Andrew Luck led three scoring drives but threw two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, while playing the first half of the team’s 26-24 preseason loss Sunday to the host Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cornerback Ike Taylor returned Luck’s first interception 49 yards for a touchdown to give the Steelers a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Luck also was picked off by cornerback Cortez Allen in the second.

Luck, though, also showed the talent that led the Colts to draft him with the No. 1 overall pick in April. He completed 16 of 25 passes for 175 yards and guided the Colts to two touchdowns — one on his one-yard run — and a field goal on their last four possessions of the first half.

The Colts led 17-14 at halftime, and Luck was replaced by Drew Stanton to start the third quarter.

Pack’s Jennings back at practice

Green Bay Packers receiver Greg Jennings returned to practice after sitting out more than two weeks with a concussion. The Packers thought he had suffered the concussion during a scrimmage Aug. 3, but Jennings said it might have happened before that.

‘‘I hit my head on the ground, split my nose open,’’ Jennings said when asked what happened during the scrimmage. ‘‘[But] it probably was a little bit before that because I started getting headaches [Aug. 1].’’

Jennings said he will play in the Packers’ preseason game Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Concussions for two Vikings

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Cook and tight end Kyle Rudolph are recovering from concussions suffered Friday against the Buffalo Bills and were held out of practice as a precaution.

Coach Leslie Frazier said they’re still in the evaluation phase of their injuries, but they’ve passed all of their tests so far.
