At least 2 killed, 9 hurt over weekend

At least 11 people were wounded — two fatally — in gun violence in the city since Friday night.

On Saturday night, a 17-year-old boy was killed in a drive-by shooting on the Southwest Side. Jesus Garcia, of the 5200 block of South Fairfield, was shot in the 2900 block of West 56th.

The shooting appeared to be gangrelate­d, police said.

At 5:40 a.m. Saturday, a 36-yearold Gary man was found dead after police responded to a call of shots fired and a car crashing into a porch. Mark Woodson, 36, of the 5000 block of Virginia Street, was found dead at the scene in the 11600 block of South Wallace.

In non-fatal shootings, two men were listed in serious condition after they were wounded in separate incidents Saturday night in the Austin neighborho­od on the West Side.

At 7:57 p.m., a man in his 30s was shot multiple times in the head and body in the 4900 block of West Huron, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. About 10 min- utes later, a 32-year-old man was shot in the stomach during a robbery in the 300 block of North Central, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital.

In another shooting, a 30-year-old woman was shot multiple times Saturday morning in the Northwest Side Avondale neighborho­od. The shooting happened at 6:55 a.m. in the 2900 block of North Ridgeway, police said. The woman was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Also early Saturday, two men were shot in the South Side Englewood neighborho­od.

A 33-year-old man was in the 6700 block of South Bishop when an unknown male approached on foot, shot him in the thigh and fled southbound about 12:50 a.m., police said. A 49-year-old man was struck by the gunfire in his abdomen while inside a home in the 1400 block of West Marquette.

Both men were taken to Stroger Hospital.
