Haden suspended for substance violation

The Cleveland Browns will be without Joe Haden, their best cornerback, for the next four games.

Haden was suspended without pay for four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performanc­e enhancing substances. Haden’s suspension begins immediatel­y, and he will not be eligible to return to the’ active roster until Monday, Oct. 8, one day after the Browns play at the New York Giants.

Haden, who reportedly tested positive in the offseason for the stimulant Adderall, played in the opener against the Philadelph­ia Eagles. He had an intercepti­on and six tackles.

Warren tears triceps again

The future of Denver Broncos defensive tackle Ty Warren, 31, is in doubt after he tore his right triceps in his first game since 2009. It’s the same injury that sidelined him all of last season.

Warren was reinjured early in the Broncos’ win against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He missed all last season after tearing the same muscle during training camp, and he missed the 2010 season, his last in New England, with a hip injury.

In other injury news ...

The Atlanta Falcons lost franchise-tagged cornerback Brent Grimes for the season with an Achilles tendon injury. Grimes left in the fourth quarter of the team’s victory at Kansas City with what was described as a calf injury. After an MRI exam, it was determined he will need surgery for a torn Achilles.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings has a groin injury, and his status for Thursday night’s game against the Bears is unclear.

Rams offensive tackle Rodger Saffold has returned to St. Louis after spending the night in Detroit with a neck injury that coach Jeff Fisher called a “significan­t strain.” Saffold was discharged from a hospital after results of tests were negative He had a CT scan and X-rays. Center Scott Wells broke the fifth metatarsal bone on his left foot and will need surgery.

The Buffalo Bills must deal with injuries to two key offensive players. Receiver David Nelson will miss the rest of the season after tearing a ligament in his right knee. Running back Fred Jackson will be out at least three weeks after his right knee was injured.

Arizona Cardinals quarterbac­k John Skelton has a low right ankle sprain and coach Ken Whisenhunt is noncommitt­al about his status for Sunday’s game.

Washington Redskins rookie safety Jordan Bernstine is out for the season with torn ligaments in his right knee.

New York Jets All-Pro corner Darrelle Revis has a concussion.

Smith said he expects cornerback Charles Tillman (lower leg) to play against the Packers, but acknowledg­ed that might be wishful thinking. ‘‘The glass is half-full, always,’’ Smith said.

Tight end Kyle Adams (shoulder) and J’Marcus Webb (thumb) also were injured against the Colts, but neither injury is considered serious.

‘‘We’re in pretty good shape,’’ Smith said.

With Adam Podlesh recovered from a hip flexor injury, the Bears waived punter Ryan Quigley and signed former Steelers offensive tackle Jonathan Scott.

The Bears also signed tight end Dedrick Epps to the practice squad and cut offensive tackle Cory Brandon.

The 6-6, 318-pound Scott started nine games for the Steelers in 2010 and five last season. Scott was cut by the Steelers in July and signed with the Lions. He was put on injured reserve with a knee injury and released by the Lions on Aug. 30.
