QB Rodgers figuring out Bears’ ‘D’

Aaron Rodgers is trending. That could be a real bad thing for a Bears defense that used to take residency in the back of the reigning MVP’s head.

Before last season, the Green Bay Packers quarterback had a 5-2 record against the Bears since taking over as the starter in 2008, but it came with some serious work.

While Rodgers seemed to handle most opposing defenses with a certain amount of ease, Lovie Smith’s cover-2 was a problem for him.

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has noticed from the sideline how uncomfortable Rodgers has appeared against the Bears.

“There’s been games, yeah, I know he would probably pick a few different defenses to go against than our guys,’’ Cutler said Tuesday. “Whenever we’re playing our defense and the front four is getting pressure, it’s hard as a quarterback because your clock is speeding up, you know you have to get rid of the ball, but there’s very few windows to put them in.’’

In 2008, Rodgers averaged 244 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions in two games against the Bears. A year later, he averaged 182 yards with one touchdown in the two games. No easy feat for the Bears, considering Rodgers had five 300-yard-plus games that year.

They faced Rodgers three times in 2010, including the NFC Championship Game, and held him to two touchdowns while picking him off four times.

“They give most teams fits,’’ Rodgers said. “We see them twice a year. That kind of helps and hurts both teams, but I just think they’ve always had a good defense.’’

Last year, however, Rodgers seemed to solve something. He had eight touchdowns and one interception in a two-game sweep. Not a good trend for the Bears entering the teams’ meeting Thursday night at Lambeau Field.
