Saint Mary’s gives Memphis a scare

-

Matthew Dellavedova’s three-point shot sailed long as time expired, allowing sixth-seeded Memphis to breathe a sigh of relief as it topped 11th-seeded Saint Mary’s 54-52 in Auburn Hills, Mich., after nearly blowing a five-point lead at the end.

The Tigers led by 15 in the first half but nearly gave the game away. With Memphis up 54-49, Eividas Petrulis banked in a three with 3.1 seconds to play. The Tigers then lost the ball when the Gaels’ Jordan Giusti deflected the inbound pass off Joe Jackson of Memphis and out of bounds. Dellavedova then missed the would-be winner.
