Mets’ Santana likely to miss entire season

-

The New York Mets said Thursday that two-time Cy Young Award-winning lefthander Johan Santana reinjured his left shoulder and likely will need surgery that will force him to miss the 2013 season.

Santana missed the 2011 season after having shoulder surgery, then returned last season and pitched the first no-hitter in Mets history. He hadn’t pitched all spring because of arm weakness, and general manager Sandy Alderson said an MRI exam Wednesday showed Santana probably had torn the capsule in his left shoulder again.

The St. Louis Cardinals will wear a patch on their left sleeve this season to honor the memory of Hall of Famer Stan Musial, who died in January at 92.
