After a rise to success in the early 1990s, Irish-American folk-rock singer

Michael McDermott, hit a downward slope battling alcohol abuse and a pile of debt. The Chicago native, now a husband and father with a positive attitude and charitable cause (he developed a coffeebran­d to help raise moneyfor Feeding America) pours out lyrics filled with hope and faith in songs like “Let It Go,” “Ever After” and “Scars From Another Life,” when he returns to his old neighborho­od for a gig in support of his new album “Hit Me Back,” at 8 p.m. March 30 at The Red Line Tap, 7006 N. Glenwood.
