‘Your 20th anniversary is a moment when you become introspective, or reflective,” says designer Viktor Horsting, who along with Rolf Snoeren makes up the Amsterdam-based line Viktor & Rolf, which celebrates two decades this year. “But we feel quite light, and not really in the mood to look back. We’re looking more to the future.” For their Spring/Summer 2013 collection, the design duo was inspired by old Hollywood with a modern take. “It’s those elements transformed in a surreal way,” says Horsting.
To celebrate the duo’s many accomplishments — which include their upscale ready-towear line, highly conceptual runway shows and popular fragrance Flowerbomb — style icon Ikram Goldman and her husband, Josh, welcomed 70 local tastemakers to the Café at Ikram for a gourmet farm-to-table dinner prepared by chef Christopher Sullivan. Guests such as jewelry designer Carolyn Rosenberg, fashion designer Nick Cave and Johnson Publishing chairman Linda Johnson Rice were treated to an elegant family-style menu, which included a kale Cesar salad and eggplant caponata with grilled bread, followed by grilled sturgeon with chive oil and shaved radishes and grilled hangar steak with chimichurri sauce. Post-meal, the boutique’s red-decked stockroom became the hottest stage in town, as guests sang live-band karaoke into the wee hours. Viktor and Rolf’s song of choice? A rousing rendition of “Dancing Queen,” sung along with the Goldmans, that brought the house down.
