THREE THINGS WE KNOW

Lincoln-Way East’s sprinters weren’t the only Illinois runners to star at last weekend’s Penn Relays. Lindblom senior Shamier Little had no trouble adjusting to the longer 400-meter hurdles race, winning with a time of 58.80 that is the nation’s best this season. Little was back in action Tuesday at the Public League preliminaries and will be chasing several more titles on Saturday in the Public League finals at Hanson Stadium. Action for the co-ed meet begins at 10 a.m. with field events.

Glenbard West’s Madeline Perez and York’s Emma Fisher continue to put up low numbers in the distances, but not in the same races. Two weeks ago, they set meet records at Glenbard West’s Sue Pariseau Invitational, where Perez ran 4 minutes, 54.40 seconds in the 1,600 meters and Fisher went 10:30.80 in the 3,200. Last weekend at Wheaton Warrenville South’s Tiger Invite, Fisher won a competitive 1,600 in 5:02.75 and Perez had the eighth-fastest 3,200 in the country this season (10:21.19).

West Aurora’s girls track team isn’t a one-person show, but the Blackhawks would be a different squad without junior Emma Spagnola. At last Friday’s Kane County Meet, Spagnola won the 100 hurdles (15.12), 300 hurdles (45.31) and long jump (17 feet, eight inches), and took third in the high jump (5-3). That helped West Aurora topple runner-up St. Charles East 131-100.5 for the title.
