THREE THINGS WE KNOW
1 All eyes will be on Frankfort and the Lincoln-Way East Invitational this weekend. The eight seeds include No. 1-ranked Lincoln-Way East, No. 2 Minooka, No. 3 Sandburg, No. 5 LincolnWay North, No. 7 New Trier, No. 8 Lyons, Naperville North and Lincoln-Way Central. Two possible semifinals Saturday at 9:45 a.m. would feature Minooka vs. New Trier and Sandburg vs. Lyons. Fans will also get their first look this year at Belleville East (14-4-2), which reached the sectional finals against Minooka last year and is once again among the top teams in southern Illinois.
2 The Sandburg and Providence boys volleyball teams will play at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8 at Lewis University to benefit the family of late Sandburg athletic director Bruce Scheidegger, who died in a single-car accident on Feb. 9. Scheidegger taught and coached at Prophetstown, Dixon and Sterling before coming to Sandburg in 2007. He was a member of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Admission to the game is $5. All proceeds will go to the Scheidegger family.
3 Should Lincoln-Way East and LincolnWay North fail to meet at Saturday’s invite, do not despair. The teams will still meet on “Pack the House” night at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 at the Oaks in Mokena. The contest is also the featured “Game of the Week” on the Comcast Sports Network.
