Free Broadway in Chicago concert set for Pritzker
It has become a rite of summer for Broadway in Chicago: a free concert in Millennium Park’s Pritzker Pavilion designed as an introductory teaser for its upcoming season. This year’s big night is slated for Aug. 5 beginning at 6:15 p.m.
Headlining the performances will be cast members from the hit Broadway musical “Motown the Musi- cal” (playing April 22-July 13, 2014, at the Oriental Theatre), as well as “Wicked” (in a return visit Oct. 30-Dec. 21 at the Oriental).
Additional performances include numbers from: “Flashdance the Musical” (running Aug. 6-18 at the Cadillac Palace); “Evita” (Sept. 17-Oct. 6 at the Oriental); “Once” (Oct. 9-27 at the Oriental); “We Will Rock You” (Oct. 22-27 at the Cadillac Palace); “Elf The Musical” (Nov. 26-Dec. 15 at the Cadillac Palace); “Ghost the Musical” (Jan. 7-19, 2014, at the Oriental), and Chicago’s long-running “Million Dollar Quartet” (now at the Apollo Theatre).
Janet Davies, Val Warner and Ryan Chiaverini will serve as hosts for the show, which is being sponsored by ABC7 Chicago in partnership with the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events.
This year’s concert also will feature performances by the 2013 Illinois High School Musical Theater Award recipients: John Clay III of Oak Park and Taylor Marie Sherry of St. Charles. On Monday, Clay and Sherry will participate in the Jimmy Awards in New York City, named for Broadway theater owner and producer James M. Nederlander.
