Woman charged with animal cruelty

-

A Dolton woman on Wednesday was charged with animal cruelty after the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Animal Crimes Unit — acting on a tip — found an emaciated dog outside her home. The sheriff’s department alerted the Chicago Heights-based South Suburban Humane Society at 9:45 a.m. The shelter rescued eight pit bulls that had no food or clean drinking water. Amanda Wise, 29, was charged. There were no signs of dogfighting at the site, but the dogs were chained up outside or were in padlocked wooden pens or crates, officials said.
