WHO KNEW? CUTLER IS FUNNY

- LORI RACKL

ATV show about fantasy football will get a dose of reality when Bears quarterback Jay Cutler guest stars in an upcoming episode.

Cutler flew to Los Angeles earlier this month to tape “The League,” a bawdy sitcom set in Chicago and Winnetka.

“He was as aggressive with his comedy as he is throwing it downfield,” said Jeff Schaffer, who writes and directs the series with his wife, Jackie.

“The League” centers on a group of long-time friends obsessed with fantasy football. For its fifth season, the cable show moves to FX’s new, younger-skewing sister network, FXX, which launches next month. Cutler’s wife, Kristin

Cavallari, turned up in an episode last season. The former reality TV star played herself attending a “Mommy and Me” class with Camden Cutler — a k a “The Cutlet” — in tow. That’s where she encountered star-struck parents Jenny ( Katie Aselton) and Kevin ( Stephen Rannazzisi), who stole a bottle of Cavallari’s breast milk and tried to pump her for inside information that would help them in their fantasy league.

Kristin and Jay are both in the upcoming episode, the third installment of the season that kicks off Sept. 4. This time, Kevin and Jenny’s kid is enrolled in the same Winnetka preschool as The Cutlet (played by a child actor).

Cutler’s role is bigger than a fleeting cameo. He’s featured in multiple scenes — and the funny QB nails each one, Jackie said.

“We already knew Kristin was funny; what we had no idea was that Jay Cutler is funny,” she said.
