WR Cooper to get sensitivity training

-

The Philadelphia Eagles are setting up wide receiver Riley Cooper with sensitivity training after he was caught on video making a racial slur.

‘‘In meeting with Riley [on Wednesday], we decided that his next step will be to seek outside assistance to help him fully understand the impact of his words and actions,” the team said in a statement Thursday. ‘‘He needs to reflect. As an organization, we will provide the resources he needs to do so.’’

Cooper apologized profusely Wednesday after a video of him using the N-word at a Kenny Chesney concert last month surfaced on the Internet. The Eagles fined him, and the league plans no further discipline.

‘‘I hope at some point in time we’ll have a chance to move on from it,’’ coach Chip Kelly said. ‘‘But right now, I don’t think it’s going to be something that’s going to go away very quickly.’’

Long rehab for Harvin

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said receiver Percy Harvin faces a long rehab process after having surgery Thursday to repair his injured hip.

Carroll said the surgery, which was performed in New York, went ‘‘very well,’’ but the team doesn’t have a timetable for his recovery. Carroll said Harvin will remain in New York for the next few weeks for the beginning of his rehab before returning to Seattle.

Vikings’ Love suspended

The NFL suspended Minnesota Vikings offensive tackle DeMarcus Love without pay for the first four games of the season for violating its policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Love can practice and play in exhibition games this month. Once the regular season starts, though, he must be away from the Vikings through Sept. 29.
