Shaw finds net in his first outing of the preseason
At this stage, the biggest obstacle for center Andrew Shaw is to get his mind right.
Shaw played in his first game of the preseason Saturday and scored the winning goal off a rebound at 1:47 of overtime to give the Blackhawks a 4-3 victory against the Washington Capitals.
‘‘Physically, I feel like I’m there,’’ said Shaw, who missed the first five preseason games with a lower-body injury. ‘‘It’s more about getting back into the swing of things.’’
Shaw, who played nearly 15 minutes, said he and his third-line teammates didn’t get off to the best start, but they got better as the game progressed. In addition to his goal, Shaw assisted on
Jimmy Hayes’ goal in the third period that put the Hawks ahead 3-2 with 13:08 left.
Roster decisions
Coach Joel Quenneville didn’t reveal anything about roster moves before the regular-season opener Tuesday against the Capitals.
‘‘Not sure yet,’’ he said. ‘‘Probably there are six guys for three or four spots. I don’t think anybody hurt themselves at camp by the way they played. I thought it was very competitive as far as how close evaluations are to whether they will play [for the Hawks] or [in Rockford].’’
Judging from most reports, defensemen Michael Kostka and Ryan Stanton and forwards Jeremy Morin, Brandon Pirri and Joakim Nordstrom are on the bubble.
Ring presentation
The Hawks will receive their Stanley Cup rings, which were partly designed by captain Jonathan Toews, in a private ceremony Sunday.
