Nix done for year after knee surgery

-

Nose guard Louis Nix III’s season is over.

Time will tell if he has played his last game at Notre Dame.

Nix underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn meniscus, coach Brian Kelly said.

Nix missed the Air Force and Navy games because of knee tendinitis. He returned Nov. 9 for the Pittsburgh game and had five tackles. Notre Dame had a bye last week.

A projected first-round pick for the 2014 NFL draft, Nix is scheduled to graduate in December but still has another year of eligibility left.

He finished the 2013 season with 27 tackles.

Winston volunteered DNA

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston’s attorney, Tim Jansen, and State Attorney Willie Meggs held news conferences within minutes of one another after a DNA report linking Winston to the alleged victim was leaked to the media.

Jansen insinuated that the leak came from Meggs’ office, an assertion Meggs denied.

It’s still unclear who leaked the information, but Jansen revealed that Winston voluntarily gave a DNA sample to Tallahassee, Fla., police last week but said that even if it matches that of the alleged victim it wouldn’t mean his client raped the woman.

Jansen said the sex between Winston and the accuser “absolutely” was consensual, but then retreated when pressed by reporters who asked him to confirm what he just said.

The Knights (9-1, 6-0) won for the sixth consecutive time, retaining sole possession of first place in the AAC.
