WEEK 13’S TOP GAMES
NO. 9 TEXAS A&M AT NO. 18 LSU
The facts: 2:30 p.m., Ch. 2. The records: Texas A&M 8-2, 4-2 SEC; LSU 7-3, 3-3. The story line: It was a different LSU defense that handcuffed Johnny Manziel in 2012 — a better defense, no doubt — but Tigers defensive coordinator John Chavis remains a dangerous man. He’ll build a solid game plan off the one that held redshirt freshman Manziel to zero touchdown passes (with three interceptions) and zero rushing yards of consequence. Meanwhile, there’s no evidence to suggest the Aggies have answers defensively to LSU’s passing game. On a high-scoring afternoon in Baton Rouge, the Tigers will get their signature victory of 2013. The line: LSU by 41⁄ 2.
Greenberg’s pick: LSU, 41-34.
NO. 16 WISCONSIN AT MINNESOTA
The facts: 2:30 p.m., ESPN. The records: Wisconsin 8-2, 5-1 Big Ten; Minnesota 8-2, 4-2. The story line: No offense to the Gophers, but what they’re running on offense is a little bit of a Badgers Light approach. They’ll try to establish both power and misdirection in the run game and lean heavily on David Cobb. But Wisconsin has two backs — Melvin Gordon and James White — who are more productive than Cobb, as well as a better passing game and a better defense. The line: Wisconsin by 161⁄ 2..
Greenberg’s pick: Wisconsin, 31-16.
NO. 19 ARIZONA STATE AT NO. 14 UCLA
The facts: 6 p.m., Fox-32. The records: Arizona State 8-2, 6-1 Pac12; UCLA 8-2, 5-2. The story line: To their great credit, the Sun Devils are on a six-game Pac-12 winning streak and have made as much improvement over the last two years, since Todd Graham came on board as coach, as any program in the league. But the Bruins — ignited by the freakish exploits of two-way player and sudden superstar Myles Jack— are peaking. The line: Arizona State by 21⁄ 2. Greenberg’s pick: UCLA, 44-30.
