Ga. QB Murray has torn ACL

-

Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Saturday against Kentucky and will have season-ending surgery this week.

The school said that tests late Saturday and another exam Sunday confirmed the extent of the injury. Murray was hurt when he was hit by Wildcats defensive end Za’Darius Smith late in the second quarter of the Bulldogs’ 59-17 victory.

Murray, who was 18-for-23 for 183 yards and four touchdowns before getting hurt, started all 52 games in his four years at Georgia and became the Southeastern Conference’s career leader in passing yards, touchdown passes, completions and total offense.

Cards, Peralta strike deal

Multiple media outlets reported the St. Louis Cardinals and free-agent infielder Jhonny Peralta agreed to terms on a four-year contract worth $53 million.

Peralta, 31, hit .303 with 11 home runs and 55 RBI in 107 games last season, when he served a 50-game suspension for his ties to the Biogenesis clinic in Florida. He will replace some of the power the Cardinals lost when they traded third baseman David Freese to the Los Angeles Angels last week.
