Borris, Helen Lehman

-

After 85 action-packed years Helen Borris passed away unexpectedly this past Monday.

Helen was born in Rockville Centre, New York in 1928 and lived there until Red Borris swept her off her feet and moved to Chicago in 1950. To Helen everything in life was or could become art; even trees bared of leaves looked like sculpture to her. She was constantly making things; covering, painting, refinishing, sewing and creating elegant jewelry. Helen was a gourmet cook, fabulous baker and lover of all things edible. She raised her children to have this same appreciation of art, food and beautiful things. She treasured her children and grandchildren... and everything they ever made. An inveterate talker, Helen would strike up conversations with everyone and anyone she met, usually coming away with their life story. She embraced life, never sat still and found joy in everything she did. Her infectious energy will be missed by all.

The daughter of Hannah and Ellis Lehman and sister of June Lehman Howard and Ruth Lehman Koppelman, she is survived by: children, Bethjoy (Arlene), David (Cari) and Daniel Borris (Alejandra); grandchildren, Ben, Billy, Katie, Izzy and Sophie Borris.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Chicago Area Peace Action, chipeaceaction.org.

Service Thursday 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Westlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum, 7801 W. Montrose Avenue, Norridge, (east gate entrance) where interment will follow. Arrangements entrusted to Lakeshore Jewish Funerals, 773-6258621.
