Islanders say Tavares won’t need surgery

-

Team doctors told New York Islanders star John Tavares he won’t need surgery to repair the torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee he suffered while playing for Team Canada in the Olympics, but he still will miss the rest of the season.

The Islanders said Tavares should be able to begin training for next season after an eight- to 12-week rehab period.
