Brewers’ win streak hits 7

-

Aramis Ramirez hit a two-run home run in support of Wily Peralta, and the host Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to seven games with a 4-2 victory Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. At 8-2, the Brewers are off to their best start since opening 13-0 in 1987.

Pirates starter Francisco Liriano befuddled the Brewers with his slider for the first three innings before Ramirez sent a 1-2 fastball over the leftfield wall for a 2-0 lead in the fourth.

Peralta (1-0) allowed two runs and four hits, including a two-run homer to Neil Walker, in seven innings. Francisco Rodriguez struck out the side in the ninth to notch his third save.

Liriano (0-2), who also yielded a solo homer to Mark Reynolds in the fifth, struck out seven in six innings.

Sizemore HR boosts Red Sox

Grady Sizemore hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the sixth inning to boost the visiting Boston Red Sox past the New York Yankees 4-2.

Yankees starter CC Sabathia (1-2) was protecting a 1-0 lead entering the sixth before Jonny Gomes led off the inning with a homer to tie the score. Three batters later, Sizemore hit a three-run blast to give the Red Sox the lead.

Before the game, Major League Baseball executive vice president Joe Torre said in a statement that Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda, who was caught on camera with a brown substance on his pitching hand Thursday, wouldn’t be disciplined.

Jays’ McGowan ends drought

Dustin McGowan allowed five hits in 6⅓ innings to earn his first victory since 2008, and the Toronto Blue Jays blanked the host Baltimore Orioles 2-0.

McGowan (1-1) has spent time on the disabled list in each of the last six seasons. He had surgery of his right shoulder in 2008 and 2011 and missed the entire 2009, 2010 and 2012 seasons before making 25 relief appearances in his return last season.

Price is right for Rays

David Price (2-0) yielded one run and four hits and struck out 10 in 8⅓ innings, and Grant Balfour struck out Brayan Peña after walking the bases loaded to preserve the visiting Tampa Bay Rays’ 2-1 victory against the Cincinnati Reds.

Braves top Nationals in 10

Justin Upton singled home pinch runner Jordan Schafer with the winning run with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the host Atlanta Braves to a 7-6 victory against the Washington Nationals.
