Indiana offers Richards’ Tears Orange makes play for Pugh

- BY BETH LONG FoxSports NEXT

Richards junior wide receiver Spencer Tears continues to pick up offers, the most recent coming Friday from Indiana.

“My head coach at Richards, Tony Sheehan, told me to call Indiana and gave me their number,” Tears said. “He told me to give them a call because I might have some good news.”

That good news was an offer from the Hoosiers, who expressed similar sentiments about Tears’ ability as the other schools that have offered the 6-2, 170-pounder.

“They basically said they love my size and my game,” Tears said. “I went to visit them in the summertime.”

As Tears continues to rise up recruiting boards, it’s no surprise that he’s added several Big Ten offers.

“He’s a long strider who can get vertical and has quick feet,” Scout.com national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu said. “He needs to get stronger but has all the tools to be a very good college receiver.”

Tears will go to Nebraska Saturday for the Cornhuskers’ spring game and is coming off a visit to Purdue. He holds offers from both schools.

“I am looking forward to seeing the campus at Nebraska,” Tears said. “I keep hearing that it’s like no other. I am also looking forward to meeting the coaches and hearing what they see me doing in the program.”

Bloom junior linebacker Kyle Pugh has received some recruiting interest in recent weeks.

He picked up an offer from Northern Illinois in March and recently added one from Syracuse.

“I just had a good conversation with [defensive backs coach] Fred Reed at Syracuse and they gave me my third offer,” Pugh said.

Reed mentioned several things to Pugh.

“He said that he was very excited to be recruiting me,” Pugh said. “And that I am the type of player that they were looking for on and off the field.”

Pugh’s reaction to that was pretty simple.

“Honestly, all I could think about was going home and telling my family and seeing their faces,” Pugh said.

Garland surprised by UConn

Fenwick defensive back Aaron Garland picked up an unexpected offer from Connecticut to add to those he’s received from Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Toledo and others.

“I believe Connecticut is a good offer,” Garland said. “I want to do more research on them and talk to some players and coaches more.”

There are several other schools that Garland has been in contact with, including Northwestern, where he visited Thursday.
