Age 67, of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born November 24, 1946 in Chicago to her loving late parents, Will and Jane (nee Freeberg) Adams. Cherished sister of John (Linda) Adams of Naperville, IL, Steven Adams of Chicago and Judy (the late Curtis) Wagner of Naperville; beloved aunt of Allison and Andrew Wagner and Erik Adams. Valerie will be forever remembered by her many hundreds of friends and associates with whom she shared her passion for helping and supporting others while serving as a great writer, teacher, gardener and dear friend to all of them.

Valerie’s life was marked by a constant joy, humor, kindness, enthusiasm, optimism and excitement she shared with all who knew her. She enjoyed a rich career in journalism as a reporter, editor and manager with Advertisin­g Age, Crain Communicat­ions and Chicago Times Magazine and in marketing with Media Options and Human Resource Management Systems, LLC. (HRMS), prior to a recent career change to the fields of medical coding and medical records with Little Sisters of the Poor. She delighted in serving as a docent with the Lincoln Park Conservato­ry and in her travel, sports and music activities.
